Flames Alumni Mackenzie Skapski drafted by the New York Rangers

The Ridge Meadows Flames would like to congratulate Mackenzie Skapski on being selected by the New York Rangers in the 2013 NHL Entry draft.  Now a member of the WHL Kootenay Ice, Skapski began his Junior career when he played for the Flames during the 2010-11 season.  Skapski got off to a slow start with the Flames but managed to put up decent numbers during the regular season.  Over the 2010 Christmas break he played for Team Pacific and won a Bronze medal at the World U17 Hockey Challenge.  When he returned from his Team Pacific experience he continued to improve.  However, it was during the playoffs where Skapski emerged as an elite goalie posting an impressive 2.83GAA and a .934 Save%.  Skapski had a good reputation as a fierce competitor and as someone who always wanted to excel at whatever he did.  He constantly challenged himself and others to be better, and at the same time he was well liked by his teammates.   “What impresses me most about Skapski is his passion for the game.  He understands that there is no short cut to success and is constantly learning about the game and himself” noted Flames GM and Head Coach Jamie Fiset.

Interesting fact – Skapski was born on June 15, 1994 which was the day that the Rangers won their last Stanley Cup.
